Update on Pillar Lights

An electrician from AmerenUE checked the Hanley/ Stanford pillar lights today and determined that the southern pillar's light has juice. Since Ameren's responsibility is only for the electric line coming into the south pillar, he was unable to determine if the connection between the south and the north pillar is live (this line passes under Stanford and connects the two pillars).

Also, it was interesting to discover that the line from Ameren's grid comes into the south pillar from a nearby street light. Since there is no meter on the pillar, Gannondale pays Ameren an averaged monthly fee throughout the year to keep the pillar lights glowing.

Our next step is to have an electrician (1) determine what the problem is with the pillar lights and (2) give us an estimate of the costs to bring them back on.

At a lively Gannondale Neighborhood Association meeting last Thursday night, many of the Board and Block Captains thought it might be a good idea to explore updating both pillar lights to LED or some other "green" technology. This update would probably be more expensive that repairing the lights, but wouldn't two new, energy-efficient lights be a great investment (and also help showcase Gannondale)?
